It’s Time for fellow Ron Paulers to accept reality

Until recently I had been an avid Ron Paul supporter, though I do find his foreign policy idealistic and naïve his domestic policies are exactly what we need. I know a lot of folks who are upset with some newsletters he allegedly wrote eons ago, one supporters contest the authenticity of… I don’t know, whatever the case he is right about our need to reign in the Federal Reserve and restore our God given liberties.   However, Ron Paul will not be the nominee. I am watching as Ron Paulers eschew sanity for plans to get their delegates elected and vote against the man who has been winning the vast majority of the States at Convention this summer. In other words, they are planning to vote against the will of the people they will be representing. Isn’t that our chief complaint about Obama? I don’t mind the honest and decent endeavor to impact the Party Platform and Ron Paul should be given a speech at convention and a decent time slot at that. We should not be trying to force a brokered convention. Keep in mind we are Libertarians from the Republican Party, we do not represent the Libertarian Party, therefore we do need to keep the health of our party which IS Republican in mind. We should not pine for things which will damage us in the run up to the November General Election. Beating Obama needs to be our central priority now. Other battles can wait until 2014.
Should we not respect the voice of the people we represent we will win no favors in 2014 and going forward and should we not be civil in our discourse going forward we will make pariahs of ourselves and no one will be willing to work with us going forward.
Like it or not Ron Paul won none of the States in these primaries. He would have no delegates at all had we a winner-takes-all system in place. What we have now are followers so committed to one man that they threaten near revolutionary tactics to force him on a people who selected Mitt Romney. Like it or not ballots were cast, we lost this round and Romney has all but won. However I will cast all doubt aside because Reagan too was an imperfect candidate, and he was a great president. He did the best he could with the congress he had (Democrat controlled.) I will therefore be supporting Romney full and completely.
Real change cannot come without a Republican super majority. The last time we had that was under Coolidge almost one hundred years ago. I don’t expect Romney will be the next Coolidge, but he doesn’t have to be. Building a super majority Republican congress will take time and years of dedicated work and the formation of alliances with Conservatives and Moderates of all stripes. All Romney needs to be is Warren G. Harding, the guy that puts an end to the drama and silliness coming out of Washington so that we can have an adult conversation about our budget problems. If we Libertarian-Republicans can behave like adults we may loose this year, but who knows, maybe if Romney is the next Harding Rand Paul can be the next Coolidge, that would be awesome, but it won’t happen if we continue to act like jerks.

  1. total nonsense and complete lack of information of what the delegate system does.

  2. It's kinda cute how you think with all the GOP cheating going on that the nomination of Mitt Romney is the "will of the people".

    1. The numbers tell a different story. With Romney winning each state he won by such huge numbers the idea that he did so by cheating just seems crazy.

  3. Sorry Dan, but your reasoning lacks in this way: had this election been a fair fight from the beginning, then I would consider this a hijacking. Unfortunately, you're not accounting for the fact that there has been, from the beginning, collusion to crown Romney the GOP nominee. Before the first debate ever took place, they named Romney the winner. The mainstream media wrote the narrative, and the sheep followed. Paul has the most appealing policy of all, but they simply smeared it, rejected it without logic, and spoonfed to the people what to believe. How is it that Ron Paul draws 4k voters to speaking engagement in AK, but draws less than 3k votes statewide? It's because the system is a sham. How is it that Romney, who is so popular he garners 75% of the vote, can't turn out a single delegation outside of the state of UT? It's because his support is an illusion. It does not exist. Nobody gets up in the morning excited to support Mitt Romney. You need to swallow a dose of reality friend. Paul is winning at conventions, because his support is authentic. It is real and tangible, and a threat to the system.

    1. Okay, again, the people voted for Romney over Paul by such huge numbers how can we even think to make such a wild accusation? The election results, yes, are disappointing, but they are what they are and either we can shift focus to Rand Paul and his future or we can be a bunch of disruptive jerks and kill our own movement where it stands. As Franklin used to say, you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar. Being bitter will not bring people to our cause.
